How to make Yorshire Pudding

Like many of you, I found myself with an unexpected amount of free time when the world suddenly shifted towards staying indoors more. It was during one of those quiet, reflective days that I craved something that hit both the sweet and savory notes perfectly. Despite never having attempted the dish before, I decided it was the perfect moment to try my hand at making Yorkshire Pudding. But, with a personal twist—I added sugar to the mix!

Living in the UK for nearly a year exposed me to many of its culinary delights, yet, surprisingly, I never had the chance to taste a freshly baked Yorkshire Pudding. The thought of bringing this iconic British dish to life in my own kitchen was thrilling. After all, there's something incredibly special about a Yorkshire pudding that moves directly from your oven to your plate.

Ingredients:

  • 4 eggs
  • 200g all purpose flour
  • 200g milk
  • half a tablespoon of sugar (5g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Method:
  1. In a bowl whisk 4 eggs
  2. Add milk, half a tablespoon of sugar and salt mix well.
  3. Sift the flour into the mixture and gently mix through until there are no lumps.
  4. Slowly pour batter into a large jug and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius or 392 degrees Fahrenheit. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil to a muffin tray and place into preheated oven for 15 to 20mins. (Tip: place in top part of the oven).
  6. Pour the batter into the muffin tray and place back in the oven between 15 to 20mins.
  7. Once cooked, enjoy your freshly bake Yorkshire puddings. Enjoy.

The First Bite

There's an indescribable joy in watching your Yorkshire Puddings rise in the oven, transforming into golden clouds of perfection. That first bite is a revelation—the exterior is slightly crispy, giving way to a soft, almost custardy inside, with the sweetness dancing subtly in the background. It's a delightful twist that bridges the gap between dessert and side dish, making it a versatile addition to any meal. (I have even had it with Butter Chicken and its awesome).

Whether you're a seasoned chef or a curious novice in the kitchen, I encourage you to try this sweet and savory version of Yorkshire Pudding. It's a testament to the beauty of culinary experimentation and how a simple tweak can transform a traditional dish into something unexpectedly wonderful.
